The Foundation Centro per la Conservazione e il Restauro dei Beni Culturali “La Venaria Reale” (CCR) was founded in 2005 by the Ministry of Culture, Regione Piemonte, University of Turin, the Foundation 1563 for Arts and Culture and the Foundation CRT as an institute for advanced training and research in the field of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. Politecnico of Turin, the city of Turin and the city of Venaria Reale have joined the first five founding members.
CCR is based in the magnificent complex “La Venaria Reale” in the former Stables and Riding School designed in the XVII century by Benedetto Alfieri. The CCR site is today a stunning combination of historical architecture and modern facilities.
According to the CCR bylaws, focused on training and research, the activities are organized in different department: the School of Advanced training, the Conservation and Restoration Laboratories, the Scientific Laboratories, the Imaging Laboratory, the Library and the Documentation Centre. These departments work together under the supervision of the Board of Directors and the Scientific Committee.
The CCR is based on a methodology that integrates the skills of conservators, art historians and scientists. Their presence within a single structure is a substantial element in the center, the restoration process is always the result of a multidisciplinary approach, which is discussed between the different units.
In October 2006, the Conservation and Restoration Center "La Venaria Reale" certified its management system according to the standard ISO 9001:2000. From 2012, the center has SOA certification for the category A-OS2 for the planning and restoration of decorated surfaces on historical and artistic buildings for orders up to 1.5 million euros (classification IIIb).
The CCR also operates with the support of the Friends of the Center for Restoration (Associazione Amici del Centro del Restauro).
