The setting up of historical clothes on mannequins is a very complex phase because the modern exhibition structures do not correspond to the fashion lines of the past and can interfere with the correct reading of the shapes. The course therefore aims to provide methodological indications on the assembly of historical clothes on mannequins both for museum exhibitions and as an aid during a restoration of a three-dimensional textile artifact that requires the reconstruction of missing elements or parts.
The course also reiterates the importance of the need for philological study and critical reading of the dress as a historical and material testimony, to be returned to the public after a careful philological study of its technical and sartorial peculiarities, its aesthetic values and, not least, its conservative needs.
The focus will be to provide a methodological approach to the analysis of style, cut and fit aimed at the knowledge and correct reading of each individual dress.
During the course we will proceed to a stylistic comparison on the tailoring of a nucleus of authentic bodies of the nineteenth century, made available for the practical workshop, focused on the techniques of preparation of the exhibition supports for the correct dressing shapes of the different models.
