Friday 6 December 2024, from 11 am to 1 pm, the Conservation and Restoration Centre is happy to welcome you to the Aula Magna Francesca Casadio, Founder of the Art Institute of Chicago Scientific Research Laboratory.
Almost 100 years after the foundation of the first conservation and scientific research laboratory integrated into Harvard museums, Francesca Casadio draws on case studies from twenty years of service at the Art Institute of Chicago to reflect on the current and future directions of research on works of art, with emphasis on new discoveries, academic collaborations, museum publications and great opportunities for impact on the public.

Who is Francesca Casadio?
She is the founder of the scientific research laboratory of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she currently serves as Vice President and Grainger Executive Director of Conservation and Science.
In this capacity, he leads a team of over thirty specialists for the conservation and technical-scientific study of objects, paintings, frames, works on paper, photographs, books and other printed materials, textiles and time-based media.
She has successfully contributed to the training of female scientists for career paths in museums, industry and academia.
In 2006 he received the L’Oréal Art and Science of Color Silver Prize.
